| Munro Region: | Loch Linnhe to Loch Ericht |
| Munro Number: | 166 |
| Height in Metres: | 982 metres |
| OS Map Reference: | OS Sheet 41, GR: 188670 |
This peak, which is the end point of the ridge jutting out from the spine of the Mamores at Stob Coire a' Chairn, is prominently seen at the head of the Glen Nevis gorge, where it rises steeply above the Steall waterfall. It is the northern end of a short narrow ridge whose southern end is the slightly lower top, An Garbhanach. The two peaks can be climbed from Mamore Lodge by the stalker's path up Coire a' Chairn, but the approach from Glen Nevis is shorter and the Nevis gorge gives a grand route which is more spectacular than the more open southern corries of the Mamores.
Start from the carpark at the end of the public road up Glen Nevis and follow the fine path through the Nevis gorge. At the Steall meadow cross the wire suspension bridge over the Water of Nevis and continue past the climbers' cottage and across the stream below the waterfall. A stalker's path leads up the little corrie between the two north-facing ridges of An Gearanach and gives access to the upper slopes of the hill. Climb steeply by a faint path to the more level ridge which leads to the summit. Return by the same way.
