Sgurr Eilde Mor
| Meaning: | From the Gaelic, big peak of the hind |
| Munro Region: | Loch Linnhe to Loch Ericht |
| Munro Number: | 123 |
| Height in Metres: | 1010 metres |
| OS Map Reference: | OS Sheet 50, GR: 230657 |
This isolated peak at the eastern end of the Mamores is the remotest in the range. It stands apart from the others on the east side of Coire an Lochain, rising above it in steep scree and boulder slopes. To the north-east a long ridge runs out towards the watershed at the head of Glen Nevis.
The usual approach is from Mamore Lodge, going east along the private road across the Allt Coire na Ba towards Loch Eilde Mor and then up the stalker's path to Coire an Lochain: the same route as that to Binnein Beag. Go round the south side of the lochan and climb the south shoulder of Sgurr Eilde Mor up tedious slopes of scree and boulders. By way of variation, descend the west ridge which drops towards the north end of the lochan and rejoin the stalker's path for the return.
It is perfectly feasible to combine Sgurr Eilde Mor with Binnein Beag and Binnein Mor by continuing along the route described for those two peaks.
