Skye is one of the most popular of the Scottish islands, and for good reason. Visitors are immediately surrounded by a sense of adventure and intrigue through a rich past of Highland life, rugged countryside, breathtaking scenery and plenty of wildlife, with long evening skies that bring a close to many outdoor adventures.
This natural backdrop provides some wonderful culinary experiences too; the famous Talisker whisky, restaurants offering local, freshly prepared seafood served on the harbour and internationally acclaimed gourmet experiences.
There are numerous restaurants, cafes and hotels to be found on the Eat Scotland and Taste of Skye and Lochalsh websites, which serve the best local produce to be found anywhere in the world.
This walk from Sligachan to Loch Coruisk is a testing trek through the Cuillin Hills so you'll need a good level of fitness, however your hard work will certainly be worth all the effort as walkers are rewarded with magnificent views of the beautiful island of Skye, taking you into the heart of one of the most dramatic mountain landscapes in the UK.
This walk takes a natural route through the Cuillin Hills, so, starting from the car park at the Sligachan Hotel take the path that follows the River Sligachan on the east bank for approximately four miles, passing between the impressive peaks of Marsco on the left and the Munro of Sgurr nan Gillean on the right. You'll then reach a junction with another track which heads left towards impressive Bla Bheinn. Choose the track on the right which takes you in a southerly direction, steepening as you head to Loch Coruisk.
After this climb, you will be rewarded with your first view of Loch Coruisk and as long as the weather is clear you can see Loch Scavaig. The route heads downhill (steeply in places) towards the Loch and for this route ends at the stepping stones over the River Scavaig. Stop here for a while and admire the magnificent loch surrounded by towering Cuillin mountains - a very dramatic conclusion to the outward leg of this walk.
For your return, retrace your steps back through Glen Sligachan back to the hotel, enjoying different aspects of the island on your return leg.
