Woodland Walk

Click here for the Fungarth Woodland Virtual Walk Many areas of Scotland contain woodlands - ranging from the more open ancient Caledonian pine forests to varied deciduous woodlands offering a wide range of opportunities for walking. A particularly good time for these routes is in autumn when deciduous trees turn yellow, red, and bronze and our featured woodland walk above the Perthshire town of Dunkeld demonstrates the beauty of a Scottish autumn. Other areas such as the Tweed valley, Galloway, the Trossachs, Speyside, Deeside and the Great Glen also offer plenty opportunities for similar walks.

Coastal Walk - inhabited coasts

Click here for the Fife Coast Virtual Walk With so many miles of coastline it's hardly surprising that many of Scotland's best walks are coastal walks which, in many areas can be used for walks from village to village. Our featured walk of this type is from Earlsferry to Crail on the Fife coastal path but you can also find similar walks in areas such as Galloway, the Borders coastline, in Angus, Aberdeenshire and Moray in North East Scotland or in the Orkney and Shetland Isles.

Moorland Walk

Click here for the Rannoch Moorland Virtual Walk If you like your wide open spaces without having to climb a mountain why not take to one of Scotland's moors. Many areas such as the Southern Uplands, Argyll, the far North or parts of the Western isles offer moorland walks with wide open views but for our featured walk we have chosen a section of the West Highland Way that gives an easy route, crossing the wilds of Rannoch Moor.

Coastal Walk - wild coasts

Click here for the Harris Virtual Walk Many miles of Scotland's coastline are unspoilt, wild and often uninhabited - particularly along the West and North coasts and these can provide some excellent coastal walking and are a perfect way to get away from it all without having to head for the hills. Our featured walk of this type is from the Isle of Harris in the Hebrides but you can also find similar walks on most other Scottish islands and in mainland areas such as the Northern Highlands, Ardnamurchan, Argyll and Galloway.

Lochside Walk

Click here for the Loch Katrine Virtual Walk Scotland has literally thousands of lochs (lakes), both large and small offering plenty of oportunities for lochside walks - some along easy shoreline paths, others in wild and remote areas. Our featured walk of this type is along the north and west shores of Loch Katrine in the Trossachs. Here, as with a number of other Scottish Lochs it is also possible to take a boat in one direction and walk the other giving a varied day out.

Mountain Walk

Click here for the Galloway Mountain Virtual Walk To most walkers, Scotland is best known for it's hill and mountain walks and justifiably so. However, many people don't appreciate that, as well as popular mountain areas such as the Trossachs, the Cairngorms and the West Highlands, many other parts of Scotland offer excellent hillwalking and you can often have the hills to yourself! The Western Isles, Ardnamurchan, Argyll and the Scottish Borders are amongst these lesser known areas, as are the Galloway hills - home to our featured mountain walk, the traverse of the Rhinns of Kells.
