Description
More island than mainland, the wonderfully unexplored Kintyre Peninsula boasts hidden coves, deserted beaches, tiny fishing communities, gentle hills, fabulous local produce and welcoming friendly people.
Launched in August 2006 and stretching from Tarbert to Southend, the waymarked Kintyre Way criss-crosses the peninsula, connecting communities and landscape, people and produce. At 89 miles long (142 kms), and with 4 to 7 days worth of walking, there's serious hiking and gentle rambles, all of which bring home the beautiful reality that is Kintyre.
The Kintyre Way starts at Tarbert Harbour in the north and finishes at Dunaverty Bay in the south of the peninsula. The distance of the entire walk is 103 (165 kms) including all alternative options and approximately 89 miles (142 kms) as a direct route.
The Way is routed along the the following stages:
Tarbert to Skipness (Forestry Commission Track 15.3km), Skipness to Claonaig (Public Highway 4km), Claonaig to Clachan (Public Highway/Forest/Track 15.5km), Clachan to Tayinloan (Pavement/Shore/Foreshore 14.6km), Tayinloan to Carradale (Forest Road and Track 24.2km), Carradale to Saddell (Foreshore/Public Highway 9.5km), Saddel to Campbeltown (Forest Road/Public Highway 22.4km), Campbeltown to Machrihanish (Public Highway (Transport) 9km), Machrihanish to Southend (Open Hill/Public Highway 27km).
