Anagach Wood, Grantown on Spey

| 8 kms | 2 1/2 hours | 5 metres | Explorer 419: Grantown-on-Spey & Hills of Cromdale |
Description
Accessible from the town centre this walk winds through open pine woods. It has good paths, no special footwear required; no strenuous gradients. A good morning's or afternoon's walk.
From the small car park the route first follows one of General Wade's Military Roads; later it undulates across fluvio-glacial deposits. It's interesting to see how the flora changes with local differences in glacial deposits. Notice the filled-in remnants of glacial lakes, particularly after Waymark 14, where they occur on both sides of the path, recognizable by the long grass growing in them; they attract the roe deer living in the wood.
The noticeboard at the car park gives info on the different animals, birds and plants of the wood.
