Description
Beginning at Coylumbridge (there is a shop in the caravan site) the early part of the walk is through scrub juniper, changing to young pines. After leaving the Iron Bridge the path crosses open moorland, showing a glimpse of the old Caledonian Forest, with views of the Cairngorms. The last part of the walk returning to Coylumbridge, is through old birches.
Access Info
Access is from Aviemore via the B970. By train: Scotrail run services north and south to Aviemore. By bus: Scottish Citylink operate on north and south routes to Aviemore, and there is a local bus service. It is one and a half miles to Coylumbridge if walking from Aviemore. Car parking is available at a small, road side parking area.
Additional Info
The Iron Bridge is nearly 100 years old, built to give access from Aviemore via the Lairig Ghru to Braemar and Blair Atholl. About 100m before the bridge, on the left amongst the trees, is a secluded memorial stone, in roughest Cairngorm granite, commemorating deaths in the mountains.
