Description

Take the road out of Kingussie across the level crossing and through the pine trees beside the River Gynack, a tributary of the Spey. Cross the road to the Dell, home of Kingussie Camanachd, currently the all-conquering shinty team. Walk past the shinty pitch to join the bank of the River Spey at one of its quiet stretches. Beautiful wild flowers and lots of birds in season. Easy walking throughout. Suitable for wheelchairs by following the road, though the track to the Dell is likely to require assistance.

Kingussie has a main line railway station and is served by inter-city buses and local services from Aviemore and Newtonmore. The walk starts at the railway station, where there is a regular train service and ample car parking. This is signposted from the

Before the road at waymark 2 was embanked it flooded regularly. One former resident of the area recalls being sent for by pony and trap when the river was rising and she was at Kingussie school and home was on the other side of the river.
