Distance Approximate Time Height Gain OS Map
5.64 kms 02:00 (hrs:mins) 250 metres Explorer 404: Braemar, Tomintoul, Glen Avon

Description

This walk is easily accessible to people staying in Tomintoul or if you are motoring between Grantown and Braemar. You can walk up to the viewpoint on Breac Leathad(588m) and back in a bit over an hour; but if you take in the nature trail en route you should allow two hours. The track is good all the way (parts of the nature trail can be muddy). You start through forest, then the upper half of the walk is across open heather moorland. Lots of info' re trees, plants and wildlife at the Information Point at the car park. Most people go to the viewpoint only ; but why not go on to the top? (pity about the mast, they're everywhere). Good panoramic views to the Cairngorms, etc.

Access Info

The walk is 2 miles south of Tomintoul on the A939 between Grantown and Braemar. It is very near The Lecht ski centre. Look out for a large signpost Glenmulliach Forest Walk and Nature Trail. All facilities are available in nearby Tomintoul.
