Description

The Robert the Bruce statue with views over the Wallace Monument

Start from the Tourist Information Centre in Dumbarton Road (08707 200 620). Cross the road and go up to the library. Join the Back Walk opposite this and follow it uphill around the Castle. At Ballengeich Pass cross the road onto Gowanhill, follow the path bearing left at the fork to the viewpoint at the Beheading Stone, near the old cannons.

CONTINUE down to the road at the toop of Union Street. Turn left, then bear right, past the public toilets and through the underpass. Turn right to Old Stirling Bridge and then right again back to the underpass at the big roundabout. Go up Union Street and cross the road to Gowanhill; turn left and follow Crofthead Road. Turn right onto Barn Road which leads to the steps to the esplanade in front of the Castle. Descend once more by Castle Wynd, Broad St. and Bow St. to Spital St. Turn right onto Corn Exchange Rd, go past the library and back to the Tourist Information Centre.

Access Info

The start of this walk is in Dumbarton Road, near the centre of Stirling. Regular train service from Glasgow & Edinburgh.
