The Ascent of Dumyat

Distance Approximate Time Height Gain OS Map
4 kms 03:00 (hrs:mins) 400 metres Explorer 366: Stirling & Ochil Hills west

Description

Dumyat offers an excellent introduction to the Ochil hills (it is one of the lower tops). The ascent via the Menstrie burn and the eastern slopes is fairly popular and not difficult - a walk up a small hill rather than a true hillwalking expedition - and the views both north to the Highlands and south over the lowlands are superb.

Access Info

There are various start points but the one recommended is the centre of the village of Menstrie on the A91 about 5km east of Stirling. There are regular buses along this road which stop in Menstrie.

Additional Info

Another popular route up Dumyat is by following the western slopes from the Bridge of Allan - Sheriffmuir road.

More Info

There's also further information about this route in the Cicerone guide Walking in the Ochils, Campsie Fells and Lomond Hills.
