Description
NAVE NORTRAIL is a project which will link together ancient trails, sea routes and old pathways within the context of cultural landscapes into one (very) long distance trail. This trail will stretch along the coastlines of 7 north European countries including Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, England and Scotland.
It's envisaged that the project will have a positive influence on community life and local commerce in the regions around the North Sea and, in the longer term, will facilitate opportunities for sustainable economic development along this network related to cultural and environmental tourism, outdoor activities and education.
In Scotland, the trail will begin in the Scottish Borders and run the entire length of the east coast towards Orkney and Shetland in the far north.
The ambition is to have the whole network of trails developed, signposted and ready for use within 2006.
NAVE NORTRAIL will:
- create a pathways network;
- create a heritage network to complement the pathways network;
- develop an accommodation and tourism infra-structure network;
- develop a pathway to knowledge.
