Description
Stirling is one of six official cities in Scotland and is a former capital of the Kingdom of Scotland. The Stirlingshire area is full of intriguing history and heritage and the names of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce all contribute to the lore and legend or the area. This is an excellent walk for taking in some of Scotland's most famous historic and cultural sites and attractions as it follows part of the Historic Trail around the Old Town of Stirling and visits Stirling Castle and the Beheading Stone, crosses the River Forth via Stirling Auld Brig and takes in the Wallace Monument and Cambuskenneth Abbey.

Park in one of the streets behind the Tourist Information Centre in Dumbarton Road (any one of Allan Park, Park Road, Glebe Road, Victoria Square, Clarendon Place etc). These are beautifully laid out incidentally, prime examples of fine town planning and worth an admiring stroll around in their own right. Stirling is well linked into the Scottish public transport system and is well served by train and bus services from Edinburgh, Glasgow and services to the north.
