Description
This area of countryside was once a raised beach stretching from Bannockburn through Cowie to Grangemouth, when in prehistoric times the sea would have come further inland. The paths to the east of Cowie, on the higher ground of the raised beaches, give spectacular views of the hills and countryside. There are two circular loops which can be joined on a signposted path from Scotstoun Road. The route leads to a bridle-gate, beyond which, it continues to the right along a grassy track, then farm road, at Cowiehall Farm. Further on there is a right turn which would take you to Ochilview, Cowie. For a longer loop instead of turning right, continue ahead along the grassy track to a path/road junction. Turn right onto a path along a wooded disused railway cutting and then right onto a track alongside the industrial works which takes you to Ochilview.
