Description
Start at the Village Inn. Go east to the Square. Here is a stone fountain, now disused, recording the first introduction of piped water to the village from a tank on the hillside. At the other end of the Square, a lane to the right passes a rest garden commemorating the 1953 Coronation, beyond which over the burn is Keir Hill. Back on the main road - Manse Brae - up the hill to the church. Here at the top of the steps below the bell tower is a brass plaque identifying the peaks in the northern skyline. Continue up the Brae to a waymarked footpath gate on the left just beyond the Manse. This path runs through woodland bordering Gargunnock House where a number of flowering shrubs and trees can be admired, with shows of bluebells and daffodils during Spring. Crossing a track the path climbs through some trees then up a grassy hill with two well sited seats, the first with views across the Carse to the North, the second westward to the escarpment, the quarry and the waterfall. The path comes out on the farm track leading from the house to the road back to Gargunnock. Beware of traffic - this is a winding road with no pavement or safe grass verge.
