Description
Starting at the Village Inn head east to The Square then turn right at the crossroads up Manse Brae. Continue past Moray Place then take the next road on the right. Head up through the former sawmill and continue along the track past fields and woods until the open hillside is reached. Turn right at this point (west) and follow the track across the Gargunnock burn. After approx. 50m leave the track and follow orange marker posts steeply up the hill. The route then joins an old grassed over dry stone dyke. At this point Downie's Loup waterfall can be seen, with the old Dinning Quarry to the left. This section gives spectacular views over the Carse of Stirling and hills to the north. Buzzards are often seen soaring overhead.
Eventually the route leaves the course of the old wall. Climb up the hill and across two steep gullies to a stile over a dry stone dyke, from where a track can be seen in the distance (approx. 1km). Make your way across the hillside towards this track, then follow it off the open hill and down to Knock-o-Ronald Farm. Continue along a tarmac road for 1km to a sharp left bend. Leave the road at this point and follow a path along "The Beeches" to Gargunnock Village. At the end of path turn left, then right along Main Street to return to the centre of the village.
