Description
The walk begins at the ferry terminal in Eriskay, which connects with Barra and continues along the main road up a hill and down again towards 'Am Politician', a pub named after the SS Politician which sank of the coast of Eriskay and from which the famous film 'Whisky Galore' was created.
The path then leads on past an old cemetery and onto the shore of the beach where Bonnie Prince Charlie first stepped ashore in Scotland.
Following this the way leads along a sand dune and up to the main road once again and a right turn takes you along a track towards the harbour which then requires an uphill walk up the rock face for a panoramic view of the islands of Skye, Soay, Canna, Rum, Eigg and Muck and, on a clear day, Mull, Tiree and Coll.
Once here a slight retrace of steps is required and a turn to the right towards the shore and up the hill will take the walker to a secluded little bay where otters may be seen.
Eriskay is a beautiful location for walking and will remain in your memory for a long time. The ease of getting there and the slow pace of life enables those visiting a very relaxing time.
