Description
Along the lower part of Glen Falloch, this walk follows the line of the West Highland Way through woodland to a view point high above the loch. There is the option of returning to Ardlui by ferry. For all its duration, this walk follows the West Highland Way - look out for the distinctive white thistle waymarks.
Take the A82 from Inverarnan as far as the track to Beinglas Farm. Cross the bridge and follow the signpost for the West Highland Way. Cross a stile and a footbridge over the burn. The path ahead is easy to follow as it runs through the woods beside the River Falloch. Continue along the path which ascends steadily to pass above the ruined hamlet of Blarstainge. The path passes Dubh Lochan, until the view south over the loch suddenly opens out.
As an alternative to retracing the outward route it is possible to carry on to the loch side and take the ferry back to Ardlui.
One of the best views of Loch Lomond can be seen just beyond Dubh Lochan.
