Burghead - Hopeman Circular

Distance Approximate Time Height Gain OS Map
6.44 kms 02:15 (hrs:mins) 5 metres Explorer 423: Elgin, Forres & Lossiemouth

Description

This is a coastal walk between these two villages on the coast of Moray. The walk passes several quiet sandy beaches, some cliffs for scrambling, and has extensive views across the Moray Firth. Plenty scope for children, lots of opportunities for beachcombing, exotic pebble collecting, swimming, rock scrambling. It can be done from either end, of course, and shops, food and drink are available in either village. The outward walk from Burghead is on a path following the track of a long disused and removed railway line, a spur line linking the two villages. You can return by the same path; but the recorded walk returns for most of the way by a path alongside the shore. Very enjoyable. No special footwear needed.

Access Info

Burghead is dominated by the huge Maltings building; make for it (you can't miss it) and park on open ground beside it at the bottom of Park Street. (114691).
