Port Elphinstone River and Canal Walk
| Distance | Approximate Time | Height Gain | OS Map |
| 7 kms | 02:00 (hrs:mins) | 70 metres | Explorer 421: Ellon & Inverurie |
Description
This walk starts by following a quiet path alongside the River Don. It then rises slightly through deciduous woods, with vistas over the surrounding countryside. After this it continues along quiet country lanes, before passing through more trees and a field (again with more good views). It then returns to the outskirts of the town, where it passes through another field in which there is a prehistoric stone circle. The walk then descends gently to river level, where it continues along a restored path by a canal. The banks and remnants of the old canal are the legacy of a canal which used to link Port Elphinstone with Aberdeen.
Access Info
By car off the A96 or bus Aberdeen to Inverurie, route No.10. The walk starts in a car park just south of the bridge over the River Don in Port Elphinstone.
