Torrieston Walk (1)

Distance Approximate Time Height Gain OS Map
5.23 kms 01:30 (hrs:mins) 100 metres Explorer 423: Elgin, Forres & Lossiemouth

Description

Paths are good but boots or wellies are advised in bad weather, when parts can be muddy. The Douglas Firs were among the first trees to be planted by the Forestry Commision, in the 1920s, so are now quite majestic. Wildlife includes roe deer, red squirrels, pine marten and buzzards. Dogs are welcome. There is a children's play area and toilets at the car park. You might like to visit the nearby Pluscarden Abbey (3 miles away at GR NJ142576). It dates from 1230, has been refurbished, is a functioning establishment and is open to the public.

Access Info

The walks and the Abbey are approached from the B9010 which links Elgin and Forres. The Abbey is at NJ142576 and the walk car park at NJ165588.
