Description

A walk along one of the most picturesque parts of this coast. It includes cliffs, beaches and one of the most spectacularly situated castles in the area. This walk can be linked to the Portsoy to Sandend Circular walk at Sandend to give a one-way route between Cullen and Portsoy.

The Moray and Banffshire coastline is one of the best sections of unspoilt coast in Northern Scotland with cliffs and bays interspersed with traditional fishing villages. This walk takes you from the town of Cullen along one of the more picturesque stretches of coast to the Sandy bay and quaint village of Sandend. About half way along the route is a beautiful sandy bay - Sandside beach and just beyond it is Findlatter Castle an ancient ruined castle built on a narrow promontory. The first stage of the walk is along good paths with sections of beach but the second half is less developed.

Access Info

Cullen is on the main A98 trunk road between Fochabers and Fraserburgh and is well served by buses that ply the coastal route between Elgin and Banff so access is easy.

Additional Info

Cullen is an old seaside resort with an excellent golf course, sandy beach and many other facilities including places to eat and an excellent ice cream shop!
