Glen Fenzie - Lary circular
| Distance | Approximate Time | Height Gain | OS Map |
| 11.75 kms | 03:00 (hrs:mins) | 155 metres | Explorer 405: Aboyne, Alford & Strathdon |
Description
This walk passes by some remote pastureland with wonderful views up the valley of the River Gairn in the distance. Although it passes one or two farms, much of the route is over remote moorland, covered with heather and juniper. It is an easy route to follow, mostly over Land-Rover tracks. After crossing Glenfenzie Burn near Inverenzie, the middle stage is reasonably flat but gradually rises after passing an old shooting lodge. The route then rises before dipping back to Glen Fenzie again, where the stream has to be crossed by stepping-stones. A slow rise then takes you back to the start.
Access Info
By car from the A939 Ballater to Tomintoul road. An alternative start could be from an unclassified road to Lary, west of Ballater at 354971. Continue along it as far as you can until the tarred road finishes.
