Glen Tanar - Knockie Viewpoint and Five Bridges
| Distance | Approximate Time | Height Gain | OS Map |
| 8 kms | 02:05 (hrs:mins) | 30 metres | Explorer 395: Glen Esk & Glen Tanar |
Description
This walk starts at a wooded car park close to a visitor centre for Glen Tanar Estate. It passes through pastoral scenery before entering a section of forestry plantations. After that it continues close by a stream for a large part of the route. Many fine specimens of Scots pine are found growing naturally through a carpet of heather and bracken.
These trees are rare remnants of the old Caldonian pine forest which once covered the whole area. After walking past a small fishing loch, the path skirts the edge of some fields along the side of the River Tanar, before returning to the car park.
Access Info
By car. About two miles west of Aboyne, on the South Deeside road B976, take the unclassified road west to Glen Tanar until you reach the car park for the Braeloine visitor centre.
