Description
From the car park, the route leads along the sandy beach then just after the start of the track beyond the beach take the path to the right in order to reach a headland above a rocky shore line on the east side of the peninsula. There are stunning views of the cliffs and sea stacks to the north and west and a colony of Puffins around the headland. Follow the coastline south east back through the dunes to a grassy path that returns to the car park.
A longer version of this walk is possible by continuing along the track from the north end of the beach to Faraid Head and back before returning by the route above.
Access Info
Leave the A838 road in the centre of Durness, and take the single track road, passing the Balnakeil Craft Village to the car park at Balnakeil Church.
No public transport.
Additional Info
Another spectacular site near Durness is Smoo Cave where there are boat trips inside the cave.
