Beinn Eighe (Ruadh Stac Mor)

Distance Approximate Time Height Gain OS Map
11 kms 05:00 (hrs:mins) 1040 metres Explorer 433: Torridon - Beinn Eighe & Liathach

Description

The white quartzite slopes of Beinn Eighe which at times can make it look snow capped make it one of the most distinctive mountains in Scotland. Walks on Beinn Eighe are equally distinctive. The two most popular are probably the walk into Coire Mhic Fearchair which is also described on this website and the ascent of the main summit ¿ Ruadh Stac Mor. One route to the summit is via Coire Mhic Fearchair and then up the slopes at the far corner of the corrie but a steep, more direct ascent from the road is also possible and is the one for which times and distances are given here. From the car park this route ascends via intermittent paths to the main ridge at the low point, just west of Spidean Coire nan Clach and follows the ridge for a short distance before a subsidiary ridge is followed northwards across a col and on to Ruadh Stac Mor.

Access Info

There is a car park next to the bridge over the in Glen Torridon, (GR 957569) known as ¿the Beinn Eighe car park¿ which is the normal start point. A post bus can be used to reach this point but times are not ideal for big mountain days.

Additional Info

If suitable transport can be arranged a traverse of the whole ridge makes a classic mountain day. Start with a climb onto Sail Mhor via Coire Mhic Fearchair, before following the ridge to Spidean Coire nan Clach and Sgurr nan Fhir Duibhe with the pinnacle
