Gairloch - Flowerdale Falls
| Distance | Approximate Time | Height Gain | OS Map |
| 6.44 kms | 02:15 (hrs:mins) | 150 metres | Explorer 434: Gairloch & Loch Ewe |
Description
This is a pleasant family walk and goes from sea level at Gairloch to 150m at Flowerdale Falls. A shorter return route can be taken by returning the same way; this alternative return route offers splendid views of hill and sea.
The walk explores Flowerdale, a glen sheltered from most winds and so having a microclimate of its own, supporting plants e.g. bog orchids, bog asphodels, butterwort, sundew, and animals e.g. voles, pine marten, stoats, weasels, buzzards not commonly found in the area. The path from the car park to the falls is good; if returning the same way no special footwear is required, but if doing the full walk boots will be more comfortable.
There are some viewpoints en route with views of the whole glen, and up to the Hebrides. From July to September anti-midge preparations are advised!
Access Info
The car park is opposite the pier, in Charlestown (Gairloch), at the mouth of the river, conveniently by The Old Inn. (811753).
Additional Info
1. If the path is wet it can be slippery at the falls.
