Ormond Castle Walk
| Distance | Approximate Time | Height Gain | OS Map |
| 8 kms | 02:30 (hrs:mins) | 100 metres | Explorer 432: Black Isle |
Description
About two-thirds of the walk is on farm and forest tracks and the remainder on a quiet country road. The walk activates the mind as well as the muscles... there are three historical sites to ponder over - the site of Ormond Castle, the Raising of the Standard and the Wishing Well.
Munlochy Bay can be picturesque (high tide) or mudflats at low tide...
Access Info
Go to Avoch and turn south along the shore through the picturesque fishertown. Park at the end of the village (699542).
Additional Info
There are few remains of the castle now, but good views from the site. The castle is also the site of the Raising of the Standard in 1297 by Andrew de Moray before he joined William Wallace to fight the battle of Stirling Bridge.
Later in the walk you pass a Wishing Well... tie a cloutie (rag) to a tree overhanging the well; your wish might come true... or at least the evil spirits will be kept away for a year...
