Craig nan Caisteal Walk

Distance Approximate Time Height Gain OS Map
2.5 kms 01:00 (hrs:mins) 75 metres Explorer 432: Black Isle

Description

The walk is delightful; there isn't much left of the fort....several of the forts on the nearby hills are in better condition (see the Walkingworld list). The paths are narrow and grassy, you might lose one for a few metres, but there is no problem. You will climb along a ridge to 150m, to the site of an Iron Age fort, where there is a 360 degree panoramic view point.

The walk is a good family one (picnic at the fort with that splendid view?). It's suitable for dogs (there might be sheep in one field nearby). Boots or wellies advised.

Access Info

Whatever direction you approach from make for the road leading down to KILMUIR. On the Kilmuir road, a few metres beyond Viewbank House, there is a small parking area, with a signpost indicating the walk (NH 666498).
