Stac Pollaidh

Description

The hills of Assynt and Coigach are unique in Scotland, rising abruptly from the surrounding countryside, each with its own distinctive shape. Although one of the smallest, Stac pollaidh, with its jagged crest, is probably the most distinctive and most popular. From the car park above Loch Lurgainn a new track rises towards the hill, then takes a rising traverse round the eastern end of the hill and up to the prominent col near the east end. This may be as far as some people go because, from here to the true summit at the west end there is a stretch with some quite challenging scrambling, particularly the final tower before the summit. Whether you go to the col or the summit the views over mountain and loch are superb with Suilven to the north being particularly prominent.

Access Info

From the A835 north of Ullapool take the unclassified road towards Achiltibuie. 5miles / 8km along this road there is a car park directly under Stac Pollaidh. Public transport is to infrequent to be of use for this walk.
