Description
This is a fantastic and challenging walk for experienced hillwalkers starting from tiny Achnashellach station which is dwarfed by nearby towering Torridonian giants. The round of Coire Lair is a fine and challenging outing in either direction.
Take the Coire Lair path from the station and after around 2 kms cross the River Lair (difficult in spate conditions) taking the south west path. Continue along this to Coire Mainreachan and before reaching the impressive Mainreachan buttress, climb south over grass and scree to the summit of Fuar Tholl.
From the summit head west descending steeply along Creag Mainnrichean to reach Bhealaich Mhoir and climb Sgorr Ruadh by a straightforward line. From the summit of Sgorr Ruadh descend north-west to a lochan between the summit and point 785, then descend north east to reach the Coire Lair path. Continue ascending north east to reach the summit of Beinn Liath Mhor. To return to Achnashellach station walk along the ridge of Beinn Laith Mhor eventually descending steeply to the Drochaid Coire Lair and the path back to the days start point.
