Description
Beinn Eighe in the Torridon area of the Highlands is Britain's first National Nature Reserve and features wonderful mountain scenery and ancient pinewood fragments overlooking stunning Loch Maree. The reserve is home to red deer, golden eagle and the elusive pine marten.
This walk involves a challenging mountain walk over the Corbett Meall a' Ghiubhais and provides rewarding views over the complex massif of Beinn Eighe and over Loch Maree towards the Munro, Slioch.
Take the west side of the Mountain Trail (a circular nature trail which includes points of interest along its length) from the Glas Leitir car park. After around 1 km the trail climbs a gully to bring you out onto more open ground below Meall a' Ghiubhais at around 500 metres. Continue along the Trail for a short distance and just before a small lochan is reached veer WSW climbing steeply up the slopes of the hill avoiding the north-east facing crags, to reach the summit at 887 metres.
To return, head back to the small lochan to pick up the Mountain Trail and follow this south-east to a cairn which provides magnificent panoramic views and then carry on along the path heading north east to return to the car park via the east side path.
