Description
If you're after splendid isolation with a dramatic coastline at your feet then this Muckle Roe route is the one for you.
From the road end follow a wide track inland, past red granite and peat stacks, all the way to Town Loch at North Ham. Ruins add a poignant feel but the bay is beautiful and stunning with its huge red cliffs, stacks and natural arch.
Pass by the end of Town Loch to climb to the top of a ridge with magnificent views of the serrated coastline.
Carefully walk round the deep Geo of Stromness as you negotiate your way east. Keep well left of Dandi Geo to reach the three lochs. Walk on by the south of Gilsa Water and continue, refreshed, back to the car.
Access Info
From Lerwick drive north on the A970 to Brae, continue round the head of Busta Voe and take first left for Muckle Roe. Go over bridge, and follow the road to the end where there is car parking.

This walk is described in more detail in 'Walks on Shetland' by Mary Welsh.
