Description

The Covenanters Memorial recalls the drowning in 1679 of over 200 presbyterian prisoners from the Battle of Bothwell Brig. The straight track to the monument is surrounded by wild flowers.

Access Info

Leave Kirkwall to Deerness, then turn left after the post office and follow the signs for Covenanters Memorial. Car park at end of narrow lane.
Local buses run as far as Deerness, memorial 2 miles from village.
