Description
Fethaland, the most northerly point on Shetland's North mainland, is known for its stunning hilly scenery.
From the lay-by pass through the gate and walk along the track as it ventures uphill. Continue climbing upwards where you will be struck by the magnificent view towards the Isle of Fethaland.
You will see from here that below you the isle is linked with Fethaland by a spit of boulders and pebbles. From here, walk over the boulder spit to the island before passing in-between a gap in the wall and follow the inclining path ahead. Be careful as you walk along the west cliffs to take in views out to the lighthouse and the Ramna Stacks. Now walk back along the east coast looking out for the rock face of soapstone which has many carvings of ancient graffiti before crossing back over the spit to start your return journey.
Walk south along Shetland's east coast and trek around the wide Wick of Breibister. Continue travelling south and on your way you will pass Layar Taing, Eislin Geo and Lokati Kame. From here cross the next fence and continue onwards, passed grassy hollows, to a stony beach. Climb to the top of the hill to achieved magnificent panoramic views of Shetland.
Descend the hill and turn left to walk around the south of Loch Houllsquey. When passed the end of the loch cross a fence and continue forward until you reach a track. Keep on this, as it descends, all the way back to the starting point.

On the right hand side before the gate there is a lay-by where you can park your car and where you can start the walk.
