Description
This walk begins in the heart of Perth at the North Inch parkland and follows a good path north to the village of Almondbank. Much of the route is on the banks of the River Tay and the River Almond and corresponds with a section of National Cycle Network Route 77 (the whole route is waymarked and extends from Dundee to Pitlochry). Follow the River Tay upstream, past the Woody Islands, and then veer left towards the River Almond. Continue along the riverbank, briefly through a small industrial estate and then into greener, more open country before reaching Almondbank. Return by the same route.
The name 'Almond' is derived from the Gaelic 'Abhainn' meaning 'stream'. Almondbank and the neighbouring community of Huntingtower were once important centres for the bleaching and dying industries.
Access Info
The North Inch is the best starting point for this walk and is easily accessible from the centre of Perth. There is a public car park at Bell's Sports Centre, close to the North Inch.
Additional Info
