9 kms 02:00 (hrs:mins) 0 metres River Earn Walk, Crieff

Description

The River Earn flows out of the east end of Loch Earn and joins the River Tay at Bridge of Earn, shortly before the Tay estuary. Throughout the course of its journey there are many spots offering easy access to the banks and the drama of a large natural watercourse.

This walk is waymarked and starts at the Stuart and Waterford Crystal factory shop to the south of Crieff, where a large car park and coffee shop are available. The route meanders by riverbank and pleasant farmland to Muthill, a picturesque conservation village with over ninety listed buildings and some fine examples of 18th century Scottish vernacular architecture. Nearing the village the path leaves the Earn to make use of the old railway line and a quiet section of country road. Return by the same route or catch the bus back to Crieff.

The River Earn is a popular salmon fishing river and walkers are asked to keep their dogs out of the water and on a lead near livestock.
