Description
Starting at the public car park at the Eastern end of St Monans, this walk follows the coast through the East Neuk of Fife passing through Pittenweem and arriving in the picturesque village of Crail. Leaving the east end of the village, the path follows the shore towards St Monans Windmill. This was once used to pump water into the nearby salt pans.
As you continue along the path look out for a white rock with a ginger coloured band on the shore. Continue on to the attractive fishing village of Pittenweem. Points of interest include the Gyles and St Fillan's Cave which are well worth a visit. Follow the signs to the East end of Pittenweem and travel along a field edge for a short distance before turning right to descend a flight of stone steps leading to the coastline below.
This section follows the edge of Anstruther Golf Course, along the rocky shore of Billowness, the haunt of birds such as Eider Ducks, Turnstones, and Shags. You may also spot Grey Seals, as they watch you from the safety of the water. The path enters Anstruther near the Golf Club House. The coastal path sign leads you through the town and past the largest of these, Anstruther Easter.
