Description
This hill walk makes a circuit of Ladhope Moor, passing en route the large pile of stones marking Dobie's grave. Hillslap Tower can also be seen to the right of the track, dating from 1585.
Access Info
From Galashiels take the A7 heading towards Edinburgh, and turn right into Ladhope Bank. Continue for 0.5 mile to the car park on the right, by the cemetry.
Start of walk about 1 or 2 miles from Galashiels.
Additional Info
In 1790, a piper named Dobie accepted a wager that he could play his pipes all the way from Lauder to Galashiels. He set off from Lauder but on reaching this spot, collapsed and died. A pile of stones marks his grave.
