Description

St Cuthbert's Way

This award winning route has been recognised as one of the most varied long-distance routes in the country. In its 100 kilometre length walkers experience high level walking over the Eildon Hills and across the Cheviot Hills from west to east, reaching a height of 368 metres on Wideopen Hill as well as attractive riverside walking along the Tweed. They follow the route of the Roman Dere Street through the Borders, cross the two fell sandstone ridges of Northumberland and finally cross the tidal sands onto the island of Lindisfarne. Along or close to the route are places of historic interest including iron age hillforts, medieval abbeys, castles, towers and historic houses and churches.

Access Info

Rail:
The main East coast railway stops at Berwick upon Tweed. From here a bus service operates throughout the Borders

Car Parking:
There are public car parks in Melrose, Newtown St Boswells, St Boswells, Harestanes, Jedburgh, Hethpool, Wooler, Beal (Causeway) & on Holy Island. There is adequate on-street parking in Bowden, Ancrum, Cessford, Morebattle, Town Yetholm, Kirk Yetholm, Lowick & Fenwick. Please park with care & consideration.
Please do not park elsewhere along the route, & especially at outlying farms & settlements where indiscriminative parking has caused considerable nuisance in the past.

Causeway Crossing Times to Holy Island:
Holy Island is a reached by a tidal causeway. Safe crossing times can be obtained from local press, Tourist Information Centres and the following web site:
