Description
Steeped in historical connections with one of Scotland's greatest writers the Sir Walter Scott Way runs from Moffat to the east coast village of Cockburnspath and mainly follows part of the waymarked Southern Upland Way.
It has been developed around the distances generally covered by the growing number of long distance walkers, who are looking for a walk with varied scenery, interest, historical connections and a choice of accommodation provision. From the remote hills and valleys of south Scotland the way travels by river, lochside and drove road into the central borders and the ancestral home of Sir Walter Scott. Leaving the Tweed valley behind the way heads north east onto the Lammermuir Hills and drops through the Berwickshire farmland to the dramatic and rugged coastline close to Cockburnspath.
