Description
This is a varied walk, with something for everyone. It starts in the heart of the bustling little town of Peebles, through its parks and out into the quiet Borders countryside. The route up the valley of the River Tweedmeanders along part of the old Caledonian Railway track, through fields and woods, mostly keeping close to the river and off the roads.
Access Info
Peebles is 31 km from Edinburgh and there is a regular, if sparse, bus service. The town has three free car parks and on road parking but these can be very busy at holiday time, in the summer and on market day (Thursday). The walk starts from the car park.
Additional Info
Neidpath Castle was the fortress of the Border Frasers and James VI stayed there in 1587. It was stormed by Cromwells troops in 1650 but never surrendered. It is open to the public. Peebles once had two railway stations.
