Description
This stroll around and about the attractive 'artists' town' of Kirkcudbright embraces townscape, coastal, woodland and hill scenery and yet may be walked in its entirety along pavement, verge and quiet lanes.
The walk starts in the centre of the town, which dates from at least the 12th Century, near the harbour on the River Dee. It takes the A711 coast road, with views across Manxman's Lake to St Mary's Isle, as far as Mutehill. The route then turns up the wooded Buckland Glen, following the burn to Buckland Bridge. From here a high, winding country road affords fine views of the hills before dropping down to re-enter Kirkcudbright. Take in the delightful High Street and its pastel-coloured houses before arriving at MacLellan's Castle and the harbour.
