Description
This walk from the little village of Carsluith in the old Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, climbs gently onto moorland, giving extensive views over the Cree Estuary and Solway Firth, visits a cairn and the old kirkyard at the abandoned settlement of Kirkmabreck and descends across farmland back to Carsluith via a smokehouse. Nearby lies Carsluith Castle, a 16th Century L-shaped tower house, in the care of Scottish Heritage.
Access Info
Carsluith Village is signposted off the A75 about a mile-and-a-half east of Creetown. The suggested start point for this walk is adjacent to the village hall, situated at the eastern end of the village, where there is street parking by the bridge over the burn. Bus routes 431 and 500/X75 run Monday to Saturday along the A75 between Stranraer and Newton Stewart to the west and Gatehouse of Fleet, Castle Douglas and Dumfries to the east.
