Buchaille Etive Mor

Distance Approximate Time Height Gain OS Map
6 kms 04:30 (hrs:mins) 750 metres Explorer 384: Glen Coe

Description

Buchaille Etive Mor is one of the most photographed mountains in Scotland, standing as it douse at the entrance to Glencoe. Most of these views are of the rocky North East face giving it a daunting appearance but the ascent to the main summit is easier than the views suggest.

From the A82 an obvious path leads down to cross the river and continues to the whitewashed cottage of Lagangarbh. Above this the route steepens and climbs into Coire na Tulaich heading steeply up to the lowest point on the skyline from where the ridge is followed back North eastwards to the summit. There are fine views particularly towards the Glencoe peaks, those around Ben Nevis and out over Rannoch Moor For a longer day a traverse of the ridge to the southern summit of Stob na Broige is recommended ¿ the views down Loch Etive being particularly fine.

Access Info

There is plenty parking on both sides of the A82 near a prominent bend in the road and the buildings at Altnafeadh. Bus services between Glasgow and Fort William pass this point and could be used for access.
