Description
Despite its proximity to Glencoe and Ben Nevis and the fact it is well seen by those crossing the Ballachulish Bridge on the A82, Garbh Bheinn is a bit of a forgotten mountain -a shame really as its a great mountain.
The Ardnamurchan / Ardgour area contains no Munros and as such is ignored by many people but those who do visit will find some superb and quiet mountains. Arguably the best amongst them is Garbh Bheinn which rises opposite the entrance to Loch Leven giving great views towards the Glencoe peaks and out over sea lochs. The best route of ascent, although not the shortest is via Coire Iubhair. A 4 km walk up the glen on an easy path gives good views towards the peak itself with the classic Great ridge being prominent. From the head of the glen the route to the summit goes up to the left of the ridge.
Access Info
About 10 km south of the Corran ferry, just beyond the B8043 junction a short stretch of old road gives parking at the foot of Coire Iubhair. There is public transport past here but it isn't very practical for this length of walk
