A Warm Welcome For Walkers
If you are on a walking holiday in Scotland you will find plenty of accommodation throughout the country with an especially warm welcome - in fact, over 1,000 establishments provide special facilities for walkers in the VisitScotland Walkers Welcome Scheme!
VisitScotland inspects accommodation of all kinds on an annual basis to ensure these businesses are providing facilities specific for walkers in addition to the annual inspection carried out on self-catering accommodation, bed and breakfasts, guest houses, hostels, holiday-home parks and hotels.
For serviced accommodation, these specific facilities should include 1. drying facilities for wet outdoor clothing and footwear; 2. a hot drink on arrival; 3. a late evening meal (available until 8:00 pm) if there are no other options within one mile. A late snack should be offered after 8:00 pm; 4. early breakfast from 7 am, or for very early leavers a tray the night before; 5. a packed lunch - should you request one - or your flask filled; 6. information about local walking routes, local public transport and a weather forecast.
For self-catering accommodation and hostels, facilities should include 1. drying facilities for wet outdoor clothing and footwear; 2. facilities for washing clothes; 3. information about local walking routes and local public transport; 4. a telephone number for a weather forecast; 5. details of local rescue services; 6. details of the establishment's Ordnance Survey co-ordinates (if outwith a village).
So, stay where you see the Walkers Welcome logo ... you know you'll be well looked after!
